Rules

NDHA Summer Competition Rules 2025
 This is a Summer Social competition, even for those playing
competitively, and everyone should modify their attitude accordingly.
 Please respect our umpires – without them, we have no Summer Comp
Players
 No more than six players of a team are allowed on the field at any one
time.
Player restrictions
 Substitutions can occur at any time.
 There is no goalkeeper.
 All team members must wear a shirt & socks of their nominated colour.
 A mouth guard and shin pads are compulsory for all players under the
age of 18, and strongly recommended for everyone else (see next
point).
 All players play at their own risk. There is no insurance provided by the
Northern District Hockey Association Inc. Players registered with
HNSW insurance policy are covered by that insurance.
Amended Rules
 The game is played on half a field with a sideboard on one side only,
which you are allowed to bounce the ball off if you choose to do so.
 One umpire will control the game (we also have training umpires
receiving instruction during summer hockey and there may be more
officials on the field for this purpose)
 All players are limited to a maximum of two goals. If everyone on your
team has scored, each player is then allowed to score three.
 It is an offence to lift the ball over 10cm in height (see umpire advice).
 No penalty flicks will be awarded.
 Slapping & Pushing are the only method of propelling the ball. Under
no circumstance should a player be hitting the ball.
 You are allowed fore stick slap hitting and reverse flat back stick hitting.
Both of these skills don't involve raising the stick and both keep the ball
on the ground. These two skills have been highlighted in Hockey
NSW's junior development competencies.
 If a defender pushes the ball over the back line, a free hit at the long
corner line (in line with where is crossed the back line and
approximately 3metres from top of circle) is given to the attacking
team. The ball must travel with a player for 3m or be passed to a
player, at least 3m away, outside the circle before being hit into the
circle.
